The Seven Deadly Sins: Knights Of Britannia Review, The Seven Deadly Sins: Knights Of Britannia

When it comes to đoạn phim games based on licensed properties it’s often quite hit and miss when it comes to quality. While certainly not a perfect game, The Seven Deadly Sins: Knights of Britannia is definitely on the higher end of the unique scale. It’s a fun action-fighting game that kept me engaged and coming back lớn unlock more characters and complete the side quests khổng lồ power them up.

The Seven Deadly Sins: Knights of Britannia is an action-fighter game developed by Bandai Namco Games và is based on the hit manga and anime series The Seven Deadly Sins. The game features 2 main modes that you can access from the main menu. There’s the adventure mode, which lets you play through the events and battles of the first season of the anime, this is likely where you’re going to lớn spend most of your time, at least initially và Duel mode, a versus mode that can be played against a computer player, local player or an online competitor.

*

One thing I loved about the duel mode is that it only lets you play as the characters you have unlocked via playing the adventure mode. Far too many fighting games of recent years have the whole roster accessible in versus mode taking away that sense of accomplishment I used to lớn get from having khổng lồ work at unlocking my favourite characters. I also loved that characters you’ve leveled up and added custom skills to in Adventure mode retain those same skills in Duel mode which means if I play online against a person using the same character I’m using they are able to have their own loadout for that character that suits their play-style, keeping you always on your toes.

If you’re a fan hâm mộ of the anime series the overall plot of Adventure mode will be fairly familiar lớn you. It’s main quests follow the story of the 24 episodes of the first season but with some additional original side stories & battles added to add some interesting new story threads.

Relive The Anime

There are over 100 quests lớn complete in the Adventure mode. 30 or so of them are classified as the main quests và the others are made up of the side quests I just mentioned, Trial quests, which give you a pre selected character & have you take on a hoard of soldiers or black hounds in a Dynasty Warriors style battle where you need khổng lồ eliminate the hoard before the time runs out và Errand quests, a quest type where you play as Elizabeth và traverse a battlefield collecting items while using Hawk to keep the enemy soldiers at bay. These varied mission types kept things from getting too stale although there are many of the Trials that are essentially copies of each other that include a different amount of enemies in the hoard & harder difficulty level.

*

Upon completing a quest the people in the town you’re currently phối up in begin to talk và reveal intel, after filling the gossip meter enough additional side quests và the next main quest or thành phố become available. At the quest’s kết thúc you also receive crystals và the selected mission reward thành tích that can be used back at the Boar Hat Inn to craft new items that can be attached lớn selected characters và act lượt thích runes that power up that characters strength or increase resistances. These power ups are what carry through lớn Duel mode, so all that time và effort spent unlocking the next rune doesn’t go khổng lồ waste when you jump into online duels.

Commits A Few Sins Of It’s Own

Occasionally the thing you’re fighting with the most isn’t actually the enemy on the screen, it’s the game’s camera. It will occasionally position itself behind a wall blocking your view of the fight completely or be facing the opposite direction lớn the enemy you’re locked onto forcing your character to race forward and punch thin air rather than approaching the enemy. Now this doesn’t happen incredibly often but when it does it’s incredibly frustrating as when you can’t see your character for a number of seconds in a fighting trò chơi that is so action packed & fast paced it can be the difference between you winning or losing the match.

*

My next gripe I have with Knights of Britannia is the inconsistent visual unique of the game. The character models, cutscenes & the moments inside the Boar Hat look great. The cell shaded art style is vibrant and captures the tone of the anime series but some of the environments & battle stages have some textures that look lượt thích they are from an early PS3 game, and when they are side by side with your player character they stand out like a sore thumb.

Plenty Of content Still to lớn Come

It’s possible these issues may be fixed up in a post release patch as Bandai Namco have been very forthcoming about the amount of miễn phí post release content that will be added khổng lồ the game. They will be adding new story missions going forward that will incorporate nội dung from the second season of the anime, brand new characters lớn the roster that already contains 26 playable characters và adding in quests for the ’10 Commandment’ characters all for không tính phí as future updates.

Knights of Britannia is fully translated for it’s western release but the soundtrack has not been. All audio is in it’s original Japanese form. This is in no way an issue for me but thought it would be worth mentioning in the reviews in case there are fans expecting lớn hear the English voices for their favourite characters when they pick up the game.

Final Thoughts

The Seven Deadly Sins: Knights of Britannia is an incredibly fun, addicting & fast paced action brawler that fans of the anime series will really enjoy. If you enjoyed how the naruto Ninja Storm or dragon Ball Budokai games played you’ll feel right at home with this game. While it is let down by it’s visual chất lượng at times & you may find yourself struggling with the camera during a battle it still had me returning over và over again to lớn try & unlock that next rune khổng lồ make my favourite characters even better.

There are always a number of significant milestones for a big Japanese manga series to lớn hit as it enters the mainstream và becomes a Big Deal™. The manga should get an anime! That anime should get an English dub! and then a movie! Seven Deadly Sins is a vibrant và unique action series that’s been sweeping through all of these big achievements swiftly, but the most exciting one of all has only just been achieved. A Seven Deadly Sins clip game has finally arrived, & it is a sinful affair indeed.

Seven Deadly Sins: Knights of Britannia is a 1 on 1 arena battle trò chơi comparable lớn something lượt thích a Naruto: Ultimate ninja Storm or a J-Stars Victory VS. Much lượt thích those titles, the combat options available here are flashy, but limited. You have two predetermined bộ combo strings, two or three special moves, & a powerful super move. While attacks look like they have weight behind them, the input đầu vào lag between pressing an attack button và seeing it play out on-screen ruins any sense of satisfaction you might get out of combat.

Destructible environments and fun movement abilities showroom some flair, but even those mechanics are rife with flaws. Environmental hazards will randomly take a few hits before being destroyed, and your auto-locked dash abilities will constantly get you stuck in the middle of these destructible environment items, while also flinging your camera around into indecipherable angles at motion-sickness inducing speeds.

Characters manage to lớn feel unique from each other despite these clunky, limited ability sets, but you won’t notice that for a while, as 21 of the 25 playable fighters need khổng lồ be unlocked in Adventure Mode, which is where the lion’s cốt truyện of this game’s issues reside.

Seven Deadly Sins is about a princess named Elizabeth, who joins forces with a young boy named Meliodas and his talking pig Hawk in order to lớn reunite a group called the Seven Deadly Sins so that they may overthrow the corrupt Holy Knights who have overthrown the kingdom. The brisk manner in which I just described the first episode of the Seven Deadly Sins anime is how this game relays it’s entire narrative. Climactic scenes and fateful encounters from the source material are embarrassingly recreated here in brief, poorly written dialogue-box exchanges. The most important battles from the series are simply generic arena battles book-ended by 2-3 lines of that same lazy dialogue. For newcomers to the series, you’ll be lost beyond belief with no idea of what’s happening. Faithful fans will be able lớn keep up with the story, only khổng lồ be disappointed by how poorly it’s all been adapted.

*

The trò chơi attempts lớn pad out its brief story missions with a number of systems that, lượt thích the rest of the games ideas, fall disastrously flat. When you’re not going through basic arena battles for missions, you’ll be doing mind-numbing resource gathering quests as Elizabeth, or horde battle missions with arbitrary time limits. Before you can move on khổng lồ your next quest, you need khổng lồ slowly traverse an overworld map, find the corresponding town that your quest takes place in, visit the town, và then accept the quest. The slow movement speed & the lack of a clear bản đồ only serve to fluff up a depressingly thin story mode.

Still, a genuinely interesting idea shines through the pile of burning trash that is this story mode. As you destroy objects in battles during quests, you’ll earn points that fill a Rumor Gauge. When this gauge updates at the kết thúc of a quest, townsfolk begin sharing and spreading rumours of odd nearby happenings that relate to lớn your next objective, which you end up overhearing. It’s the one interesting aspect of the Adventure Mode that I thought was executed successfully, most importantly because it never felt like I had to grind missions out in order to fill this gauge enough lớn progress the story.

In the audio department, Seven Deadly Sins is a bit of a hit, but mostly a miss. Anime voice actors return lớn their roles for the game, và do a perfectly fine job with their battle cries và Adventure Mode dialogue, but this game only has Japanese audio, so don’t expect any familiar voices if you’re a Netflix fan. In terms of music, things are a lot more rocky. You’ll hear a few different battle themes during fights that are fine enough, but for some reason, there was only ever one piece of generic ‘tense mood music’ that seemed lớn play in every single story scene, & it got very old, very quickly. Horde enemies also seem khổng lồ only have one voice clip, & hearing that same voice đoạn clip blast out dozens of times at once as you mow down enemy waves made me want khổng lồ immediately phối my voice language to “none”.

*

If this trò chơi had a strongest quality, it would probably be its visuals. The environments you vày battle in are lush và gorgeously lit, và when you’re going at it & sending debris flying everywhere, the scene of carnage is a legitimately impressive sight. Character models, while less impressive, are still surprisingly strong. Seven Deadly Sins has a chất lượng art style where each character has their own bizarre anatomical quirk, lượt thích impossibly long legs or literal barrel chests. Their translations into the game are almost 1:1, although the way they were animated can sometimes be a little clunky.

What’s Bad:

Terrible story adaptation
Weak sound design & soundtrack
Heavy, clunky combat
Entire cast is locked behind story mode

It’s hard khổng lồ recommend The Seven Deadly Sins: Knights of Britannia to anyone but the most hardcore fans of the original series. Even then, though, I feel like a true tín đồ would kết thúc their time with this game wishing they could have bought something better. A truncated story mode makes it impossible for newcomers lớn engage with any of the plot, & what little content that remains will only infuriate existing fans. It would be nice lớn be able lớn jump into Duel Mode and bypass Adventure Mode entirely, but when practically the entire cast needs to be unlocked, that really isn’t an option. Long-time fans of Seven Deadly Sins might find some joy in seeing their favourite characters make the jump to lớn a big, 3D kích hoạt game, but that alone is hardly worth suffering through the rest of what this poor package has khổng lồ offer.
